Potion Making

Today we had lots of fun in maths! We made a magical potion to banish monsters. There were lots of disgusting ingredients we needed to use like troll’s bogies and ogre’s sick, yuck! We used our measuring skills to pour the right amount into our bowl, stirred it 5 times and said some magical words to make the potion work. IMG_2463[1]

Buying a new class carpet!

Today we decided we wanted to buy a new carpet! We measured the size of our carpet squares using a measuring tape and then counted how many squared we needed on our carpet.

Then we realised we needed to find out how much one square cost. Luckily Miss Croxall had already found a company selling them for £15 each. We used a grid method to multiply the number of squares we needed by the cost and worked out that a new carpet would cost £360.

We are going to write a letter to Mr Sieczkarek to see if we can have one. IMG_2389[1].JPG

Live PE

Today we really enjoyed our special PE lesson! We joined in with a live PE lesson that lots of schools across the country took part in. We had different dances to join in with and then used the live games to work out fractions, percentages and decimals. It was a really fun way to learn maths and PE together!

Investigating Shape

Today we have been working really hard investigating shapes. We all had a challenge about making as many shapes as possible using only 4 multilink cubes! We realised we needed to think of more creative shapes or we would run out of ideas! Some of us then went on to try and draw the shapes we had made on isometric paper which was a real challenge. We persevered and worked really well as a team and every one achieved at least one drawing! IMG_1757[1]

Fractions Fun!

We had a fantastic maths lesson today! It was our first lesson learning about equivalent fractions, which can be really tricky. However we all persevered and tried really hard. We used magnetic fraction shapes and bars as well as the fraction rods to find how many smaller fractions we could fit into the bigger fraction. We had to be careful because they needed to fit perfectly, with no gaps or overhangs. Hopefully this investigating will help us for the rest of the week with the rest of our fractions learning.

Smartie Fractions

We had an amazing time this morning in maths! We wereworking with smarties to find fractions. First we counted how many smarties there were in our tube to find our denominator, then we counted how many there were of each colour to find our numerators. Some of us even managed to simplify our fractions and draw bars to show them! Of course we did then have to eat the smarties at the end of the lesson…
